What is a United States Border Crossing Card (BCC)?
The United States Border Crossing Card, also known as a “BCC” or “DSP-150,” is a biometric identification card that allows eligible Mexican citizens to cross the U.S. border for temporary visits without a visa. It is a type of travel document that serves as a BCC and a B1/B2 visitor’s visa. The US government issues the BCC, which can be used for travel up to 30 days within a 25-mile radius of the U.S.-Mexico border. It is important to note that the BCC is not a work permit or a permanent residency card, and it does not grant the holder the right to live or work in the United States. It grants multiple entries for ten (10) years for pleasure and business purposes. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the card can be converted to lawful permanent residency or green card.
The legal basis for issuing BCCs is Section 104 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). To qualify for a BCC, applicants must demonstrate that they have ties to Mexico that would compel them to return after a temporary stay in the U.S.
