Eligibility for OCI application for Singapore Citizens

For Singapore citizens, the eligibility for OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) application falls under two main categories: direct lineage and marriage to an OCI holder.²

Direct Lineage

• You are eligible if you meet one of the following criteria:
  • You were a citizen of India at any time after January 26, 1950.
  • You were eligible to become a citizen of India on January 26, 1950.
  • You belonged to a territory that became part of India after August 15, 1947.
  • You are a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of such a citizen.
  • You are a minor child of such persons mentioned above.
  • You are a minor child, and both your parents are citizens of India, or one parent is a citizen of India.

Marriage to an OCI Holder

• As a foreign national married to an OCI cardholder, you can apply for an OCI card. However, specific conditions apply:
  • Your marriage must have been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of two years immediately before applying.
  • You must be a citizen of a country that allows dual citizenship or grants you no objection to acquiring OCI status.

Requirements and documents needed for an Indian OCI for Singapore Citizens

Singaporean Adults

• Completed online application form
• Two recent passport-sized photographs
• Original and copies of current Singaporean passport (and any previous Indian passport)
• Proof of Indian origin (e.g., birth certificate, parents’ passports, marriage certificate, PIO card)
• Proof of address in Singapore(residence permit, utility bill)
• Application fee
• Additional documents for specific cases:
  • Spouse of Indian citizen/OCI cardholder: Marriage certificate and spouse’s passport/OCI card copy
  • Children of OCI cardholders: Birth certificate and copy of parent’s OCI card.
  • Individuals born before 15th August 1947: Proof of Indian origin of an ancestor born before that date.

Singaporean Minors

• Completed application form signed by both parents/legal guardian
• Two recent passport-sized photographs
• Original and copies of current Singaporean passport
• Proof of Indian origin through parents’ documents
• Proof of address in Singapore (parents’ residence permit, utility bill)
• Application fee paid by parents/guardian
• Additional requirements for specific cases:
  • Minors below six years: One parent’s signature on the form is enough
  • Minors who cannot sign: Both parents/guardians sign and provide the minor’s thumbprint
